thanksgiving

Last week was a pretty good show. Thanks for all of you people who actually keep up with this blog. Last Friday was way fun on the air. We had some great requests come in, and so I thank you for that.

By the way, might I be the one to say that this show is really the only show that will do instant requests. I got a request from a listener and BAM it was on. I tell you what, Grif is even better than your IPod!!! We are all about getting you what you want when you want it.

So, this week we're not going to be on the air. It's thanksgiving. But I do have awesome stuff planned for the week after.

I was in salt lake recently and heard some great new stuff. I have some real big potential hits coming up a week from friday - they're big time, I swear. Carolina Liar, the Fray, and a couple of other artists that I am sure you Grif-ites are going to love! I'm going to see if I can't do a show of NEW STUFF ONLY. That would be cool. Hopefully I am able to oblige.

Well, guys. Thanks for listening and being a part of the show. Thanks for tuning in. Y'all are the bomb.com

The Holy War

You can also expect a bit more attention to be paid to the BYU UTAH rivalry game this friday. It may be a bit slanted towards BYU...

Go BYU. Win the holy war and make it 3 in a row!

the sabbatical and the show

Ok, so I was back last friday! We had a theme to the show again, but this time it was a bit different. We took some songs that were linked somehow, played them, and then talked about the comparisons between the two. The songs we compared were Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" against Fall Out Boy's "I don't care." Also, we put Weezer's "Holiday" against Green Day's "Holiday" and Coldplay's "Lost!" vs Coldplay's "Lost?"

In other news, Coldplay is coming to town this week and just released a short LP entitled "Lost" It's got 4 different cuts of the song on it, Lost!, Lost?, Lost@, which is a live performance recorded in Chicago, and Lost+ which is an extended version of the song with Jay-Z making a small contribution. It's pretty brilliant

You can expect a full review of the show as soon as I get back on the air after the show. It's gonna be the bomb

Ok
Have a great week. This week's show is going to be great.

Good Morning

Good Morning to all - thanks for following the blog.

Last week's show was a special extended edition. We were on Fusion for 4 hours last week. The only downside was that this week, I'm not going to be on the air. I have to be in Provo, Utah on Friday morning... Bummer, huh?

In any case, I am going to be DJ-ing a party tonight. There will be a dance party at Deseret Industries in Logan, Utah tonight starting around 8, I believe. It should be fun! Everybody should come.

Next week we're going to have a good show, just like always, but this week if you tune in Friday at 8am you are going to hear someone else. He's the DJ for "The Beat Next Door," the show that airs thursday nights. I don't know if he's going to play the same music that I normally do, but I believe he will. He's a good DJ. You'll like him.

Take care y'all. Props to Obama, even though I didn't vote for him.

MRAZ

Alright GRIF-ites. I went to a show last night in Salt Lake City - Jason Mraz. All I have to say is this: WOW.

The man is amazing! He has an INCREDIBLE voice. I've never heard a voice so smooth, yet kickin' at the same time.

My only disappointment about the show was that he didn't play two of my favorites. He didn't play "Wordplay," nor "You and I Both." I can see why he didn't play "Wordplay," but I thought that "You and I Both" would have fit right in with his show.

It was definitely not a rock show - that much I'll say. It was very suave. He serenaded his audience instead of rocking their guts out. The version of "The Remedy" that he put on was very different from the Album cut, but that didn't devalue it at all. It still offered the audience a chance to sing along with the song they new, but in a different, more "I'm Yours"-ish kind of style.

If you've listened to his latest album, "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things," you'll know that all of that music follows that chill, almost reggae style. There's almost no pop on that album, so I guess he's trying to switch things up after Mr. A-Z. The track that I think epitomized his show, ironically enough, came from Mr. A-Z - it was "Bella Luna." When he introduced the song, he said that it was "time to get smoov - with a v - S-M-O-O-V" He then gave the audience the most beautiful rendition of the song that I have ever had the privilege to hear.

It was definitely not a rock show, but it was still of the handle. Quality music, folks. Quality stuff right there.

So, after that, this week is going to feature some of my favorite tracks from the new Mraz album, as well as a lot of similar singer-songwriter stuff. Last week we rocked your face off, and this week, we are going to serenade you.

I hope you enjoy. I know that I will. Get ready to sing with soul, because that's what I'm putting out there

The Show

So, this week is homecoming week. I've got the playlist ready, and it's going to be the most awesome show I think we've done yet. If you listen this friday and don't leave with a spring in your step, I will consider my mission failed... But I don't think that will happen.

I've tried to come up with a better theme than "Loud, Proud, and Kickin" I think I am going to call this show the "GET UP OFF YOUR CHAIR" show, or "We're going to blow the roof off" show. I'm also toying with just calling it, "The most AWESOME show of all time." All of these titles are accurate, but they just don't put the right ring that I am looking for. In any case, the show will be rad. Y'all should listen.

Mad props to Fall Out Boy and Jon McLaughlin. They've put out the hits of the month as far as I'm concerned.

Listen to the show - We've got new stuff, some older stuff, and all of it is rad. You'll love it.

last weeks great show on... Thursday?

Hey everyone -

Thanks for listening to the show last thursday! It was my favorite show by far this year. We had a new feature on the grif show - a guest dj! Mr. BoJankles McTreesap (as he prefers to be called... why, I'll never know) aka my little brother made a trip from the land southward to make a cameo on the Grif show. I've never had so much fun doing a show before. It was great.

This week, though, we're back to normal on friday.

This week we are going to have some smoking hot new tunes to listen to. There's a new single from Fall Out Boy's Folie à Deux CD that is set to be released in December that I have fallen in love with. You'll hear it probably a couple times on my show this week. Also, Jon McLaughlin... where did he come from? He's got a new song that I absolutely adore as well.

We'll be doing a quick comparison between Christina Aguilera, Fall Out Boy, and Norman Greenbaum this week. You'll be surprised to find what the connection is between the three... Tune in to find out! Radio.usu.edu

Bubba

Hey! I am proud to announce that (hopefully) we will have my brother Bubba on the show this thursday. He and I are like salt and pepper - I'm salt and he's the pepper. I've always wanted to do a show on the radio with him, and so now that I have the chance to do it, I'm stoked. He and I are going to have a great time.

Bubba is actually in high school still, and coming up from down south. You'll get a good taste of him, I'm sure.

I'm just about done building the playlist this week. We are definitely going to be playing some artists that have never been heard on the GRIF show before, as long as I like them... I am sure that all of my listener's requests are the bomb, since, well, they are. I've said it before and I'll say it again - only the most sexy people on the planet listen to the GRIF show. We've monopolized the sexy market, that's for dang sure.

So, keep listening and enjoy this Thursday's show. If you're a student, good luck on your midterms.

the tenth is is then

hey everybody - I want to thank all of you who listened today. I'm going to admit, it was pretty rough. If you were listening, you know what I am talking about. We had some technical difficulties with our web stream, which is the principal method of listenership because of the lack of popularity of HD radios - go buy on everyone... The web stream cut out three times today - I wanted to beat someone down. But, we recovered and ended well with the news and a gaffe. It all worked out.

Also, next week we have a shift in schedule. Since USU is taking friday off and shifting friday classes to thursday, that means the same thing for me. TUNE IN ON THURSDAY THIS WEEK AND NOT ON FRIDAY. Same hours, 8-10

We are getting more and more requests! Some of you like to just tell me in person sometimes if you see me. I will admit, I am human. If i don't write it down, I forget who they are for. If you want a request, please submit them online. On wednesday, I compile my playlist and upload it on thursday. Make sure you get them in at the beginning of the week if you want them in by the show - restrictions of a small library. I have to hunt music down and get it approved before it can be aired. Thanks for understanding!

As all of you should know, you can post a request on the group page, the GRIF show, on the blog at grifshow.blogspot.com, or through an email to usuradio@gmail.com with GRIF in the subject line. Soon, I'll get on MSN messenger too so that you IM requests to me.

If I do get a request in the studio, I have to check and see if it is in either my or the group libraries. If it isn't, then sorry, but you're out of luck until next week.

I know you guys are the most wonderful listeners. thanks for tuning in every week, and if you haven't, then please start again. It's a great way to start the last day of the week, and I love it just as much as you do

tight

I always knew I had the most rad listeners in the world.  You guys have been great.  Thanks for sending in your requests.  Without you, well, it's just me, and no one likes to be alone.

Keep on sending them!  You can always send me an email at usuradio@gmail.com (just make sure you include GRIF in the subject line) or you can chat with me on friday mornings with the same google ID (the gmail address...)  Also, leave comments here on this blog post, or on our facebook group.  It's called "the GRIF show."

Today I went soft for the first half hour playing James Taylor's Fire and Rain, by request, and some other softer, acoustic music.  After the news we just about blew the roof off the studio.  I played weezer, cartel, the ataris, and some goo goo dolls.  My favorite song by far was the new pink single - So What.  That song is kickin and catchy.  I love it.  Definitely one of the highlights of the show today.

Also, there is a possibility that the show could extend to three hours next week, and with fall break, who knows?  I could do two days in a row... but then I'm getting ahead of myself.

Man, I love being a DJ

Send in your requests!  We'll get them on next week.  Thanks for listening and being a part of the show!  I couldn't do it without you guys!

yellowcard and requests

hey!  Last night's yellowcard unplugged show was AWESOME!  It really was a great show.  Ryan Key and the gang busted out a monster set with their acoustic guitar and the violin.  They really did put on a great show.

One thing that struck me though was Jason Reeves, the opener.  I had never heard of this kid before, but I think he's pretty good!  I'm going to be getting some of his music to review and perhaps I'll put it on the show this friday.

If you want your requests played on Friday, you better let me know now!  Comment here quickly, or send me an email!  usuradio@gmail.com.  We're also on facebook.  GRIF show is the name of the group.

Peace out

grif's crew

hey - i like to know who my listeners are.  Off to the left, you can check the "Grif's crew" section.  It's a fancy version of the followers widget.  Follow the show!  I may come up with something to give a member of the crew later on in the term - I don't know what I can give away as of yet, but I'll find out.  Stay tuned.

Launch Date

Hey, welcome to the Grif Show official blog!  It's a pretty new show - we've only been on Fusion for a few weeks, but it's still lots of fun for your Friday morning.  We're always open to requests - I want to play what you want to hear.  Send them to me by commenting on this blog or emailing them to usuradio@gmail.com.  We also have a facebook group called the GRIF show - check that out.

Ok, so this week we've got a special show coming up.  As you know, Yellowcard is coming to Logan next Tuesday, the 30th.  So, to honor Yellowcard, we are going to have a special YELLOWCARD EDITION of the grif show.  We are going to crank it up with at least 3 songs every hour from Yellowcard.  It's going to be awesome.

Something that you can be clued into since you are one of the few and proud that read this, I have 2 coldplay tix for their concert in SLC this fall, and I'm considering letting a listener come with me.  If you would like to go see coldplay this fall, leave a comment or email me and let me know.  I want somebody to go who is as nuts about coldplay as I am, although I doubt that this is possible...

Check us out Friday at radio.usu.edu 8am-10am.  Stay awesome!
